商品簡介
Words for agricultural and domestic tools must be among the oldest and most conservative in a language, posits Halayqa, therefore a systematic study of such words and their origin can cast light on previous languages spoken in a region and influences on those languages. He conducts such a study on the current Palestinian vernacular, tracing the origins of words in categories such as farming and gardening, harvesting and gathering grain, harvesting fruits and vegetables, pressing olives, animal breeding and animal-related equipment, domestic furniture and objects, and household utensils and domestic tools. Then he processes the information into lists of Semantic and non-Semantic languages, the percent various languages have contributed, and factors that influence the naming of tools and objects.
