Clean Language

Created by New Zealand counseling psychologist David Grove (1951-2008) in the 1980s, Clean Language is a set of questions using the most basic elements of human perception--space, event, category, attribution, and intention--which can be combined with client-generated metaphors to help individuals heal. More recently, Clean has been applied in diverse areas to enable varied people and groups to work through complex problems. Sullivan and Rees present a practical guide to the use of Clean, not only by therapists and coaches, but also in conversations between parent and child, teacher and pupil, manager and staff, doctor and patient, researcher and subject, and in team meetings and organizational development work.
