Francis Bret Harte (1836 – 1902) was an American author and poet, best remembered for his short fiction featuring miners, gamblers, and other romantic figures of the California Gold Rush. In a career spanning more than four decades, he wrote poetry, fiction, plays, lectures, book reviews, editorials, and magazine sketches in addition to fiction. As he moved from California to the eastern U.S. to Europe, he incorporated new subjects and characters into his stories, but his Gold Rush tales have been most often reprinted, adapted, and admired. In this book:A Waif of the PlainsBrown of CalaverasBy Shore and SedgeClarenceDevil's FordDrift from Two ShoresSelected StoriesThe luck of Roaring CampThe outcasts of Poker flatMigglesTennessee's partnerThe idyl of Red GulchBrown of calaverasHigh-water markA lonely rideThe man of no accountMlissThe right eye of the CommanderNotes by flood and fieldAn episode of FiddletownBarker's luckA yellow dogA mother of fiveBulger's reputationIn the tulesA convert of the missionThe indiscretion of ElsbethThe devotion of EnriquezThe Heritage of Dedlow Marsh and Other TalesA knight-errant of the Foothills.A secret of Telegraph HillCaptain Jim's friend. The Bell-Ringer of Angel's and Other StoriesJohnnyboy.Young Robin Gray. The sheriff of Siskyou.A rose of Glenbogie. The mystery of the Hacienda.Chu chu.My first book.
