商品簡介
Author Higgins offers a guide to RDA and MARC 21 film cataloging. RDA is an abbreviation for "Resource Description and Access," a cataloging standard designed for the digital world. MARC 21 is a data format in use since the 1990s that allows computers to exchange bibliographic data. Higgins wrote this guide to expand upon earlier guides and where necessary, reinterpret them. In addition, he aims to offer librarians a primer on understanding film, which is inherently a more complex entity to catalog than a book. The book starts with a brief history of the formats for film storage and librarianship. It then goes over instructions for cataloging DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. Chapters 2 to 4 look at three sequential groups of MARC 21 fields, having to do with people, content and technical features. Chapter 5 goes into cataloging television programs. Chapter 6 discusses cataloging older formats, such as VHS and photochemical film. Chapter 7 lists MARC 21 fields that differ from the earlier cataloging protocol, AACR2. Chapter 8 goes over issues involved in managing a film collection. Chapter 9 considers the transition taking place from optical disc to video streaming.
