Wolverton (U. of Nevada, Las Vegas) and Gmelch (dean, College of Education, Iowa State U.) present an analysis of a 1996 survey carried out by the Center for Academic Leadership, of which Wolverton is director. 1300 deans at 360 universities in the US were surveyed (60% responded). The survey questioned the experience of the dean from faculty to administrator, the experience of men versus women deans, factors that help a dean commit to their job, and leadership development.
