商品簡介
Recent archeological finds in China have spurred interest in an important, but little-studied type of Chinese Buddhist/Buddhist-Daoist sculpture. Wong (East Asian art, U. of Virginia), a specialist in medieval Chinese Buddhist art, provides historical, religious, and aesthetic context for these ornately carved stone steles inscribed with instructive religious texts. They symbolize the spread of Buddhism among the Chinese people in the fifth and sixth centuries. She includes images of steles from museums around the world, a dynastic timeline, distribution maps, and a glossary of terms in transliterated English and Chinese characters.
