While exile is a popular contemporary theme, this study is perhaps the first in its field to examine literary representations of adolescent girls' exile experience. Harwell (Russian and German, Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Indiana) does so through a comparative study of four Slavic/Germanic women writers starting to gain scholarly recognition.
