Goldziher enlarged and corrected lectures he was invited to deliver at Uppsala University in September 1913 for his Die Richtungen der islamischen Koranauslegung (Leiden, 1920). Translator Wolfgang H. Behn has in particular dropped the very literal Arabic-to-German translation of Koranic passages in favor of modern Arabic-to-English.
