In the words of the Author: In this book I’ll tell you the story of how I discovered osteopathy while I was already a medical student, what I learned from my patients over the years, how I founded a center for osteopathic teaching and treatment, and how I reached the point where I’m helping to train the next generation of osteopathic practitioners and our colleagues in related fields in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. In the process I may reveal what many people possibly suspect, that physicians are not gods. Along the way, I’ll tell you many stories of healing. I’ll give you some idea of the how’s and why’s of osteopathy. For anyone who wants a high level of wellness; for anyone who wants care that fulfills the ancient physician’s principle “first do no harm”; for health-care professionals who want to learn a safe and effective way of helping patients; and for patients who still suffer despite years of medical treatment, it is my passionate desire to offer a special gift: the gift of hope and some knowledge about how to proceed.
