Public Private Partnerships for Infrastructure and Business Development ― Principles, Practices, and Perspectives

In our market economy, under perfect or ordinary conditions, infrastructures should be funded by public budgets and businesses by private investors. However, public budget constraints, high public debt, liquidity shortage, equity gaps, and global competition require alternative approaches, especially in domains that are strategic for economic growth and development.

Alternative approaches often pass through public private partnerships (PPPs), agreements where public and private actors share resources (mainly capital and competences) to better accomplish their own missions, with an ultimate shared goal that is generally related to certain economic or societal issues.

Stefano Caselli is Vice Rector for International Affairs and Full Professor of Banking and Finance at Bocconi University, Italy. He is one of the founders of the University's Monitor on Public Private Partnership and serves as independent director on several boards of corporations and financial institutions.

Guido Corbetta is Full Professor of Corporate Strategy at Bocconi University, Italy, where he also is AIdAF - EY Professor of Strategic Management in Family Business and Scientific Director of the Monitor on Public Private Partnership. He has covered several institutional positions at Bocconi University as well as in international scientific networks.

Veronica Vecchi is Professor of Public Management at Bocconi University, Italy, where she coordinates the Monitor on Public Private Partnership and Impact Investing Lab. She is also Director of Executive Education at Bocconi India. She is author of several scientific publications on public private partnerships.
