This volume presents 11 chapters that compare social policies in the US and Korea during the age of austerity, as well as the use of program evaluation in social policies and lessons for policymakers. Economists and policy specialists from these countries address social and fiscal policies like antipoverty policy, schooling, disability assistance, and unemployment; the social safety net; the labor market in the US; Social Security Disability Insurance; Korea's National Pension system; education policy and after-school classes; poverty reduction policies, including the Basic Old-Age Pension in Korea; and the effects of government subsidies on investment by small companies.
