A dazzling, sumptuous historical novel from the author of Liberty Silk.
A spellbinding story of two women one hundred years apart, brought together by the beautiful and haunting Irish home they both love.
In 1936, Edie is stunned by the sudden and tragic death of her best friend Hilly. Seeking solace from the whirlwind of London society, she takes up the offer of packing up an old friend's house in Ireland, where she spent her happiest childhood holidays with Hilly. Surrounded by memories, Edie begins clearing out the attic, where she finds a bundle of papers, an old manuscript. She begins reading and falls into the world of another woman who lived there 100 years ago -- Miss Eliza Drury, who made the crossing to Ireland by ferry in 1840, not knowing that on the other side of the sea would lie love, motherhood and tragedy. As Edie is drawn into Eliza's story, she discovers that the beautiful home she knows so well has more secrets that she could have ever imagined.
A gorgeous, evocative story of a love that echoes through the centuries.
