Airline Highway ─ A Play

A rollicking play that, with great insight, humor, and subtlety, asks us what makes a community and what it means to live an authentic life, Airline Highway is set at a rundown hotel on the outskirts of New Orleans. The Hummingbird is the figurative or literal home for a close-knit group of strippers, hustlers, and philosophers. Presiding over them is Miss Ruby, a legendary burlesque performer who has requested a funeral before she dies. As the people whose lives she has touched gather to celebrate her, they can't help but see the ties that still hold them together and those that have unraveled - and wonder whether some were ever really there at all. The gathering proves to be both a stomping good time and an occasion for some troubling soul-searching.

Lisa D'Amour is a playwright and performer whose work has been produced at Steppenwolf Theater, Woolly Mammoth Theater, and the National Theater in London. Her playDetroit was a finalist for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and the 2011 Susan Smith Blackburn prize.
