This is a paperbound reprint of a bibliography published in 1996. It can be used for the development of an existing library collection or for the creation of a new library serving Spanish-speaking young readers. It lists and describes some 1,055 books for children and young adults who speak Spanish or who wish to learn Spanish. Books have been selected for quality of art and writing, presentation of material, and appeal to the intended audience. Entries are listed in 15 categories, including science, recreation, literature, biography, and fiction, and include English translations of titles and notes on grade level. All of the books reviewed were in print as of May 1996. Dr. Isabel Schon is Director of the Center for the Study of Books in Spanish for Children and Adolescents at California State University, San Marcos. She has authored 20 books and over 300 research and literary articles in the areas of bilingual/multicultural education and literature for Latino children and adolescents.
