商品簡介
This anthology is for two groups of readers. The first is academics in the fields of psychology (with some secondary use in sociological areas of Caribbean studies). The second is psychologists and other mental health professionals, as well as students in training, who practice or hope to practice in the Caribbean. Contributors are mostly psychologists from the Caribbean. The book's premise is that the field of psychology was designed by and for Euro-Americans, so both the training and the professional literature of psychology tends to be uninformed about Caribbean peoples at best, and prejudiced at worst. Contributors are working toward a more informed indigenous discipline for use in the Caribbean, where languages and colors vary but many historical, economic, religious, social, and cultural issues are common. Sections look at developmental psychology, health and community psychology, social psychology, and clinical psychology in various regions of the Caribbean. Topics range from faith to child development to HIV stigma. The book could see use as a text for a special topics course in psychology. Annotation c2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
