The Keystone Agency, founded in 1891 in Pennsylvania ("The Keystone State") and specializing in photojournalism, is today part of the Gamma-Rapho group, Europe's most important photography archive housing over 20 million images by great photographers including Willy Ronis and Sabine Weiss.
With offices in Paris, New York, London, and Berlin, Keystone was admired for the quality of its images and renowned for the excellence of its photographers the world over. Celebrated alumni include Bob Aylott, Andre Kertesz, Terry Fincher, and Horst Faas, famous photojournalist of the Vietnam War.
From the 1920s to the 1980s, no event, whether political, historical, or social, escaped the lens of the Keystone photographer. From the Russian Revolution to the advent of the Third Reich, from the World War I to the Camp David Accords, the essence of the twentieth century is captured in the Keystone collection. Today, the archives are not only referred to by the press, but also by historians and amateur photojournalists, for which Keystone's archives represent a unique opportunity to delve into the visual images of the past.
