Gone With the Wind

Gone with the Wind (1939) is one of the greatest films of all time - the best-known of Hollywood's Golden Age and a work that has, in popular imagination, defined southern American history for three-quarters of a century. Drawing on three decades of pertinent research, Helen Taylor charts the film's production history, reception and legacy.

Helen Taylor is Professor Emerita of English, University of Exeter, UK. In 2011 she was awarded the British Association of American Studies Honorary Fellowship for her distinguished contributions to American Studies. A specialist in literature and culture of the American South and women's writing, she is the author of Gender, Race and Region in the Writings of Grace King, Ruth McEnery Stuart, and Kate Chopin (1989),Scarlett's Women: Gone With the Wind and its Female Fans (1989, reprinted 2014) andCircling Dixie: Contemporary Southern Culture through a Transatlantic Lens (2001). She co-edited, with Richard H. King,Dixie Debates: Perspectives on Southern Cultures (1996), and edited The Daphne du Maurier Companion (2007).
