Chan’s Cataloging and Classificationis a primary text for cataloging that adheres to the new standard Resource Description and Access. This fourth edition will continue to emphasize the standards for bibliographic control that have been widely adopted in the library field. Like its predecessor, it will be divided into six parts—a general overview; resource description; access and authority control; subject representation access; the classification and categorization of library resources; and the encoding and processing of cataloging records. While changes will be made throughout where necessary to keep the material current, the primary differences in this edition will occur in parts two and three where the influence of RDA is primarily felt. These sections will be thoroughly revised to incorporate the changes brought about by this new approach to bibliographic description.
作者簡介
Dr. Athena Salaba is an Associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University. Her research interests include organization of information, knowledge organization systems, and information-seeking behavior. She holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Lois Mai Chan, formerly Professor Emerita in the School of Library and Information Science at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, died August 20, 2014. She was author of eight books and numerous articles and co-editor of two collections in the areas of knowledge organization and subject indexing. In 1989, Chan was awarded the Margaret Mann Citation for Outstanding Achievement in Cataloging and Classification given by the American Library Association, and in 1992, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Chinese-American Librarians Association.
