Lene Tanggaard and Charlotte Wegener have written A Survival Kit for Doctoral Students and their Supervisors: Traveling the Landscape of Research to help enhance the experience of both the doctoral student and their advisors/supervisors in the Ph.D. process. They envision mutual learning that goes beyond the formal process of the doctoral journey. The book is grounded on substantial theoretical and empirical material while still intended as a "hands-on" book for students and supervisors. Rather than taking a narrow perspective on learning, that is restricted to measurements and results, or particular intervention such as formal supervision, they view the process that focuses on attention to the processes of making sense, regulating and orienting oneself, not limited to any particular space or practice, but as part of the routine of becoming and being a researcher. The authors draw on recent research on the Doctoral experience and data from their own doctoral programs, peer learning groups and experiences as both a student and an advisor/supervisor.
