Anna Sewell (1820–78) suffered a childhood injury to both ankles that forced her to rely upon horse-drawn transportation for the rest of her life. Cecil Aldin (1870–1935) is renowned for his paintings of animals and rural life as well as for his book and magazine illustrations of equestrian scenes. An avid sportsman and Master of Foxhounds, he served as a Remount Purchasing Officer during World War I and was active in training horses for army service.
