商品簡介
This history of Grenada’s 1979 revolution gathers development and political science scholars from the Caribbean, the UK, and the US to reflect on the political forces and events in Grenada in the late 1970s and early 1980s and the regional and international response to the Caribbean island nation’s uprising. While there is special focus on the US military response, the book also analyzes the consequences of the invasion then and now at the national, regional, and international levels. The background and events of the March 1979 Grenada revolution are examined in the context of two other upheavals of 1979: the Iranian Revolution in January 1979 and the Nicaraguan Revolution in July 1979. Of special interest are chapter-length reflections by two key figures: Richard Hart, who was Grenada’s attorney general during the revolution; and Sir Shridath Ramphal, who was the Commonwealth secretary general at the time of the revolution. Other subjects discussed include women in the Grenadian revolution and the role of Grenadian newspapers in shaping public opinion. Annotation c2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
