The final volume of US philosopher and psychologist James' (1842-1910) correspondence with his family and friends documents his aging and illness. During the two years covered, he delivered in Oxford the Hibbert Lectures on the present condition of philosophy, which was published in 1908 as A Pluralistic Universe; wrote The Meaning of Truth defending his pragmatic conception of truth; and worked on a textbook on metaphysics that was published posthumously as Some Problems of Philosophy. His philosophical correspondents at the end of his life remained those he had nurtured earlier. In addition to the texts of the letters, explanatory notes for each letter, a calendar, a chronology of letters, a biographical register, and other scholarly paraphernalia are included.
