Bleich is first and foremost a halakhist, a master of Jewish law, but also a Jewish philosopher. Here, five of his essays cover the Halakhic process, life as an intrinsic value, moral debate and semantic sleight of hand, Judaism and natural law, and reflections. The notion of a Jewish philosophy, he says, means that Judaism has a faith-commitment to a particular philosophy or to a particular philosophical view directly based upon explicit dogmatic sources or upon authoritative tradition, or it might also mean that the philosophical position in question can be extrapolated from analyses of provisions of Halakhah, Jewish law.
