商品簡介
Every second year, an international conference is held in Prince Edward Island to explore the life and work of writer Montgomery (1874-1942), a native of the province. The 23 essays here are from its 2006 manifestation, which focused on storms, dissonance, and conflicts in her novels, short stories, journal, and correspondence and on the dissonant interplay between these texts. Among the topics are the anguish of mother loss, reflections of the Great Depression in her life and her Pat books, domestic service and class conflict in her journals and fiction, health and art in the Emily novels, the conflicted worlds behind her correspondence with Epharim Weber, outrageously sexual Anne, and an ecofeminist perspective on Anne of Green Gables. Most of the contributors are from anglophone North America, but Finland and Ireland are represented as well. Annotation c2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
