商品簡介
The 15 essays presented in this volume, written by social scientists and others from the US, China, and Europe, analyze key aspects of China's urbanization in the present day: the institutional foundations of urbanization, including the city creation process, central-local relations in Chongqing, public ownership of land, hukou reform, and migrant workers and housing; the environmental and social infrastructures in urban areas, including development and environmental preservation, the promotion of “eco” and “low-carbon” cities, the impact of social security reform on Shanghai, and new social housing programs; the question of heritage preservation and the conflict between traditional and modern lifestyles in Chinese cities, such as Shanghai and Dadukou District in Chongqing; and the regional and international competitiveness of Chinese mega-cities, focusing on Kunming and Shanghai. The volume is the outcome of the European research project “UrbaChina: Sustainable Urbanisation in China -- Megatrends towards 2050,” from 2011 to 2015.
