International News Flow Online ─ Global Views With Local Perspectives

This volume examines representations of the world in international news in the internet and how they affect people's perceptions. It provides a comparative analysis of news sites, including online newspapers, news portals, and news aggregators, in different languages and cultures, as well as web mining techniques and network analysis that aids in this comparison. It considers why some countries are more newsworthy than others, the similarities and differences in the scope of international news in different languages and cultures, and how this news affects perceptions of the world, including people's memories and views towards foreign countries. It discusses news flow theory, the factors involved in country prominence in international news, and applications of the theory to the economic sphere, as well as the global standing of the US in the news, the news of its enemies, countries that present a more global or regional scope, and coverage of the Arab-Israeli conflict in European countries. Elad Segev (PhD, Keele University) is senior lecturer in media and communications at the Department of Communication, Tel Aviv University.
