商品簡介
Pigon (Institute of Classics, U. of Wroclaw, Poland) presents 22 papers from a May 2007 conference on ancient historical writing by Herodotus and his "children," i.e. such writers as Thucydides, Xenophon, Tacitus, Archemachus, Diodorus, Josephus, and Plutarch. Two key themes discussed in the papers are the ways that ancient historians approached the outside (non-Greek or Roman) world and the political dimension of historical writing, particularly in Roman imperial historiography. Also discussed are the links between historiography and other genres such as the epic or the novel. Annotation c2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
