Diabetic Bone Disease ― Basic and Translational Research and Clinical Applications

Diabetic Bone Disease provides up-to-date information about the effects of diabetes on the skeleton and mechanisms which are involved in these effects. Combining clinical, translational and basic research information, diabetic bone disease is positioned as a unique pathology requiring special attention. Research chapters address bone marrow stem cells and bone turnover, growth factors and hormones, energy metabolism, and glycation and collagen cross-links in diabetic bone. Biomechanical properties, bone quality and imaging of diabetic bone are considered in another section. Clinical applications of this research focuses on skeletal complications in type 1 and 2 diabetes, as well as periodontal disease, Charcot foot, bone neuropathy and fracture risk assessment.
