Dutch photographer Fons Peels provides a majority of the photographs, but a great number of professionals and volunteers provide others. Boudot and Kalkman maintain the database the book draws from. For each species an entry about a page long contains the Latin name, date, first identifier, taxonomy, distribution, trend ad conservation status, and habitat. They also contain a color photograph, one or more distribution maps, a graph showing seasonal flight period, and a table of conservation status data. Distributed in the US by Brill. The book is the result of a co-operation of over 50 European dragonfly experts who over the past decade brought together all records of dragonflies and damselflies, from the Azores to the Ural and from the North Cape to Lampedusa. This endeavor was coordinated by Jean-Pierre Boudot and Vincent Kalkman.
