商品簡介
This volume provides abbreviated versions of key speeches of the Natives Representatives Council between 1937 and 1950, formed as the result of the 1936 Natives Representation Act, which was passed by the white government in exchange for taking away Africans' status as Cape voters in the Union of South Africa's general elections and providing them a platform for expressing their views and examining pending legislation related to Africans before it was placed before Parliament. The speeches are organized by topic: education, rural and urban issues, taxes, wages, trade unions, social welfare, pass laws, and politics. Each speech includes the name of the speaker, a short quotation, the date, and page numbers from the Verbatim Reports of the Natives Representative Council. The first section of the book discusses the Council's formation, function, elections, and members. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
