Computational Intelligence (CI) techniques solve complex real-world problems particularly related to optimization.This book covers related pradigms and their role in different electrical engineering applications namely unit commitment and economic load dispatch, harmonic reduction, load frequency control and automatic voltage regulation, job shop scheduling, multidepot vehicle routing and digital image watermarking, which in turn is explained with practical implementation using MATLAB/SIMULINK models. Each of the application is presented with the implementation, methodology, impact of CI paradigm, solution approach with MATLAB models, and results with test instances.
Dr. S. Sumathi, completed B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering and master’s degree in Applied Electronics at Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and got her Ph.D. degree in the area of data mining. She is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, with teaching and research experience of 16 years. The Author received the prestigious Gold Medal from the Institution of Engineers Journal Computer Engineering Division – Subject Award for the research paper titled, "Development of New Soft Computing Models for Data Mining" 2002–2003, and also Best Project Award for UG Technical Report titled, "Self Organized Neural Network Schemes: As a Data Mining Tool", 1999. She received Dr. R. Sundramoorthy award for Outstanding Academic of PSG College of Technology in the year 2006. The author has guided a project which received Best M. Tech Thesis award from Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi.Dr. Sumathi has published several research articles in national and international journals/conferences and guided many UG and PG projects. She has also published the following books: Introduction to Neural Networks with MATLAB, Introduction to Fuzzy Systems with MATLAB, Introduction to Data Mining and Its Applications, LabVIEW based Advanced Instrumentation Systems and Evolutionary Intelligence: An Introduction to Theory and Applications using MATLAB. She reviewed papers in national/international journals and conferences. His research interests include neural networks, fuzzy systems and genetic algorithms, pattern recognition and classification, data warehousing and data mining, operating systems and parallel computing.
Dr. L. Ashok Kumar was born on 7 April 1976 in Coimbatore, India. He completed his B.Tech. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and masters with Electrical Machines as his major. He has completed his Ph.D. on Wearable Electronics. He has been a teaching faculty at PSG College of Technology, India, since 2000. Presently he is working as a Professor, Dept. of EEE at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He has been actively involved in numerous Government Sponsored Research Projects funded by DRDO, DSIR, CSIR, DST, L-RAMP, Villgro and AICTE. He has published 81 technical papers in reputed national and international journals and presented 136 research articles in National and International Conferences. He has visited many countries for presenting his research work. He has been selected as the Visiting Professor in University of Arkansas, USA. He got trained in Germany for installing Grid connected and stand-alone solar PV systems. He is a registered Charted Engineer from IE (India). Dr. L. Ashok Kumar is a recipient of many National Awards from IE, ISTE, STA, NFED, etc. He is a member of various national and international technical bodies like IE, ISTE, IETE, TSI, BMSI, ISSS, SESI, SSI, CSI and TAI. The author has received several awards namely, Dr. Triguna Charan Sen Prize from the Institution of Engineers, P.K. Das Memorial Best Faculty Award 2013-EEE, Prof. K Arumugam National Award from the Indian Society for Technical Education, and UGC Research Award.
