商品簡介
This study identifies variables that explain differences in the level of local party institutionalization (LPI) in Hungary, chosen as an example of a new democracy. The book reveals the systemic factors that shape the degree of LPI and the strength of their effects. It begins by defining the concepts of local party, institutionalization, and LPI, explaining why local parties matter for both local democracy and national parties, and describing why and how parties are formed and maintained. The next part of the book outlines the variables that will be studied, surveys the literature, presents the main features of the local government system in Hungary, and describe the sources of data to be used. The next four chapters discuss the evidence, and the last chapter offers an assessment of the four dimensions of party institutionalization in the local governments in Hungary.
