War what is good for! Absolutely nothing. The author was the last American arrested for the Vietnam draft, pardoned by Jimmy Carter, and logged more than 35 civil disobedience arrests as part of the peace movement. When he decamped to Canada, his first job was cataloguing Bertrand Russell's papers at McMaster University. Fear is what keeps many ordinary people from active resistance. This book is intended to break that cycle of fear and encourage greater resistance to militarism. Free Radicals is the first genuine effort to present absolutist war resisters. The information in the book is unavailable elsewhere. It contains the author's extensive research on military conscription and desertion worldwide. The bibliography offers both academics and resisters and their family the most comprehensive resource available.
