By a series of extraordinary measures, Richard forced the citizens to submit, pay lavishly, and acknowledge their submission in a public ceremony in August 1392. Carmelite friar, apparently a confessor to John of Gaunt, celebrated the triumph by writing the Latin poem Concordia facta inter reem et cives Londonie .
