Latin American Narratives and Cultural Identity ― Selected Readings

Sixteen international academics and independent scholars contribute 15 essays exploring how and where literary art intersects with and speaks to issues of identity and culture in Latin America. Eight of the essays are revised versions of papers delivered at the September 2001 "Storytelling in the Americas Conference," held at Brock U. With a balance of the theoretical, methodological, and descriptive, the essays examine voice what it is, who has it and why, what it says and can/cannot say; what and how identity is; the relationships between identity, voice, and culture, especially in cross-cultural contexts; and aspects of cross-cultural narratives.
