Thomas offers this friendly workbook for parents or therapists to use with children to help build coping skills for strong emotions, stress, and difficult circumstances. The chapters address challenges with interpersonal and social skills, creating healthy boundaries, oppositional behavior, anger management, focus and impulsivity, generalized anxiety and associated feelings of being stuck, social anxiety, sleep difficulties, sadness or depression, self-confidence and self-esteem, loss and grief, traumatic events and illnesses, and family challenges. Each chapter begins with a specific challenge the child may face and suggested goals for responding to the challenge. Skills necessary to achieve the goals are then paired with interventions adults can use to help the child develop the skill, often including structured skill-building activities and photocopiable worksheets. The chapters end with a story featuring a character facing the same challenge, a hands-on activity related to the story, and affirmations for the child to learn and use as reminders.
