This two-volume set, composed of 63 chapters, gathers the latest work on theory, application, and methods of community psychology, looking at both traditional and contemporary topics. International contributors in social sciences, psychology, health policy, sociology, behavioral health, public health, and community research offer multiple racial, cultural, and ethnic perspectives. Volume 1 covers theoretical foundations, core concepts, and emerging challenges. The first part of this volume presents three opening essays on community psychology for the 21st century, the history of community psychology around the world, and the ethics of community psychology. Parts 2-5 present theoretical foundations, core concepts, context, and emerging opportunities and controversies. Some areas explored are community psychology and liberation psychology, diversity and inclusion, class and economic inequality, and globalization. Volume 2 details methods for community psychology and action for diverse groups and issues. This volume begins with an overview of the role of theory in community psychology research and practice, and a set of foundations for a philosophy of science for community psychology, which draws from the approaches of perspectivism, pragmatism, feminism, and critical theory. The rest of the volume is organized in sections on research methods, methods for community change, and approaches to social issues such as immigration and substance abuse. Part 5, working with diverse groups, offers chapters devoted to 10 groups. Part 6 offers advice on education and career opportunities for community psychologists.
