Screenwriting Fundamentals: The Art and Craft of Visual Writing is a workshop in a book – take a step-by-step approach to screenwriting starting with a blank page, and work through the book to a first draft. Written in an approachable anecdote-infused style that’s full of humor, the book covers the basics of screenwriting, starting with character then moving to location and timeframe, with a strong emphasis on the visual components and transitions. The second half of the book focuses on the narrative aspect of screenwriting, the treatment and finishing the First Draft. Irv Bauer shows the screenwriter how to put the screenwriting pieces together and takes the process of writing out of the cerebral, and into the practical.

IRV BAUER’s vast experience in teaching screenwriting includes the undergraduate program at New York University, Sarah Lawrence College and playwriting at many universities and venues as well as non-performance workshops for writers at the New Dramatists. Irv is the author of several produced and optioned plays and screenplays as well as many commissioned rewrites for film and television and for the stage. Bauer wrote Season 1 of the animated series Courage The Cowardly Dog and was Senior Story Consultant on all four seasons. Bauer has mentored countless up and coming industry writers and directors as well as conducted his own very successful classes and tutorials that have drawn students from all over the world.
