商品簡介
This site report presents findings relating to the pre-Roman and Roman periods from four archaeological excavations at Paternoster Square in 2000 and 2001; Saxon, medieval, and post-medieval findings will be published in a forthcoming text. After an introductory section and a chapter on geology and topography, chapters progress chronologically, focusing on the development and occupation from the early Roman development ca. 43-70 CE, the expansion of the settlement ca. 70-100 CE, the town in its prime ca. 100-125 CE, fire destruction and recovery ca. 125-160 CE, and finally the economic change and decline of the settlement ca. 160-400 CE. Closing chapters first discuss aspects of the settlement such as early Roman burials, buildings and urban planning, and industrial activity; specialist appendices report on the artifactural finds such as building materials, pottery, samian stamps, stamped mortaria, glass, accessioned finds, botanical remains, animal bone, and human bone.
