Electromagnetic Radiation in Analysis and Design of Organic Materials ─ Electronic and Biotechnology Applications

The book covers fundamental and practical aspects regarding the interaction of radiation with materials. It describes the optical, spectral, thermal and morphological properties of a wide range of materials and their practical implications in electronic and biotechnologies. It discusses recent advances in the use of radiation in analysis of materials and design for advanced applications. The book contains experimental and theoretical issues that reflect the impact of radiation on materials characteristics highlighting their ease of analysis or adaptation for applications as optical filters, drug delivery systems, antimicrobial layers, amphetamine detectors or liquid crystal displays.

Dana Ortansa Dorohoi is Professor Emeritus at the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University, Faculty of Physics. She obtained her PhD in Physics in 1978 and gained the academic title of professor in Department of Optics and Spectroscopy at the same University in 1998. Subsequently she worked on her habilitation and supervised so far around 25 PhD theses. In 2012, she was awarded with the title of Professor Emeritus of the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University. In parallel with her didactic activities she conducted scientific research on various topics, including liquid crystals, simple liquids, optics of crystals and liquid crystals, intermolecular interactions in solutions, and electro-optical parameters of the molecules. The scientific contributions developed in 43 years (since 1972) by Professor Dorohoi included the interdisciplinary researches for theoretical and experimental substantiations of the processes occurring in anisotropic media under electromagnetic radiations, thus developing new optical and spectral analysis methods for optical properties of materials in solution or solid state. She published well over 165 ISI-indexed articles in the fields of physics of liquids and anisotropic media, macromolecular science, photochemistry and radiation chemistry and is the author of 3 patents, over 10 books or books chapters and over 35 research projects. She is referee for several scientific journals in the area of optics and molecular spectroscopy.

Andreea Irina Barzic is a scientific researcher at Department of Physical Chemistry of Polymers from "Petru Poni" Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry (Romania) since 2005. She received her PhD in Chemistry from Romanian Academy in 2009 and in 2014 she finalized her PhD in Physics Emeritus at the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University, Faculty of Physics. Her major fields of interest include liquid crystals, optics of polymers and structuring of materials under electromagnetic and shear fields. She has published over 35 papers in peer reviewed journals and was author of 12 books or book chapters. She is also a member in several research projects and referee for a number of prestigious journals in the field of physics and material science.

Magdalena Aflori is a scientific researcher at Department of Polymer Materials Physics from "Petru Poni" Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry (Romania). She graduated her PhD in Physics in 2005 at "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University, Faculty of Physics. She has remarkable scientific contributions in plasma physics, X-ray diffraction, small angle x-ray scattering, polymer chemistry and surface science. Her interdisciplinary researches are quantified in more than 65 papers in peer reviewed journals, 7 books or book chapters and 1 patent. She is member in many research projects with national and international funding and referee for a number of international journals with high impact factor.
