When Canadian-born Irish classical scholar Palmer (1841-97) realized that death would prevent him from completing his edition, translation, and comments on Ovid's least-well preserved work, he asked his colleague Louis Claude Purser (1854-1932) to complete it for him, which Purser did, and it was published in 1898 by Clarendon Press, Oxford, and reprinted in 1967. The pagination of the original is retained in this reprint so that cross-references remain valid. The first volume contains the preface, introduction, and Latin and Greek texts. Arthur Palmer was Professor of Latin in the University of Dublin and Fellow of Trinity College. The edition was completed after his death by his colleague, L.C. Purser. Duncan Kennedy is Reader in Latin Literature and the Theory of Criticism at the University of Bristol.
