This project offers an understanding of the transient migration experience through communication and entertainment media. It examines the role played by digital technologies in the migration experience, and uncovers how the combined wider field of entertainment media (e.g. films, television shows and music) are vital and helpful platforms that positively aid the migration experience through self and communal empowerment. This book specifically looks at the upwardly mobile middle class transient migrants working in two of the Asia-Pacific's most desirable transient migration destinations – Australia and Singapore. It considers identities transient migrants maintain and create while overseas and the strategies they use to cope with life in transience.
Catherine Gomes is a Senior Research Fellow and Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow. She is the author of Multiculturalism through the Lens: A Guide to Ethnic and Migrant Anxieties in Singapore (Ethos Books) and has published widely on transient migration in Australia and Singapore as well as on identity, ethnicity and memory in Singapore and on gender and reception in Asian cinema. Catherine is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Bias, Identity and Diversities in Education.
