Mary Ann Wynkoop retired as Director of the American Studies Program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Since then, she has consulted on projects for Kansas City Public Television, the Henry W. Bloch Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Fulfilling a life-long ambition to work in a real zoo, she had a temporary position in the education department of the Kansas City Zoo. In addition, she has been a volunteer with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), a program that assists children in foster care. Under the careful management of one rescued stray cat and an adopted shelter cat, she manages to maintain a relatively normal lifestyle that includes family, good friends, slow runs, a little yoga, and occasional travels.
