商品簡介

This volume will be a compilation of the newest research about pimps from developed and developing parts of the world, ranging from African-American pimps in Harlem to Female pimps in Tijuana and looks at examples from North and South America, Europe, and Asia. In scholarly and popular discourses, pimps are usually assumed to be either glamorized hustlers or predatory bogeymen, due to stubborn stereotypes on the one hand and the recent legal conflation of pimps and sex traffickers on the other. However, very little is empirically known about how pimps actually labor within the course of their everyday lives and within illicit markets, how they intersect with actors and organizations like sex workers, clients, police, small businesses, and governments, or their personal lives and the meanings and identities they con struct.

This unprecedented volume will be the first published book of authentic, empirically researched stories of pimps working in the sex trade across the globe, challenging highly charged public and political notions about pimping and sex trafficking. This volume will also look at how legislation that transcends national borders manifests in different regions and how culture influences pimps and their perspectives in local and global arenas.?
