The Movie Making Book ─ Skills & Projects to Learn and Share

Moviemaking is more accessible to young people than ever before as smartphones and tablets become ever more powerful. This book includes enjoyable games and mini-projects that teach kids all the skills they need to get started in movies—from establishing shots and close-ups, setting up high and low angles or panning and tracking to special effects tricks, storytelling skills, editing techniques and more. These are followed by ten more advanced projects—including making a flashback film, a news report, a superhero movie and a vlog—to put new skills to the test. Also includes advice on safely sharing movies online. 

Dan Farrell and Donna Bamford are the codirectors of Sparks, a film school for young people based in London. Together they have more than ten years’ experience in leading children’s film workshops, overseeing Sparks’ courses and education projects. Since 2010, they have helped over 3,000 young filmmakers to produce their own movies.
