The Internet and Formations of Iranian American-ness ─ Next Generation Diaspora

This book sheds new conceptual light on the field of second generation studies, a growing subfield of migration studies. This book builds on the work of scholars who have convincingly challenged the thesis of “second-generation decline” with regard to the Iranian American second generation. It addresses traditional questions of second-generation migrant strategies of societal inclusion, but from an anthropological approach that focuses on changing cultural forms. In this way it adds depth to the predominantly sociological work that tends to focus on second-generation migrants’ socio-economic and educational status in the country of settlement. Instead it develops a case-study analysis of burgeoning second-generation cultural positionings that highlights the political agency and voices of the respondents and adds to the study of this under-researched group of second-generation migrants.
