SYMLOG is a System for the Multiple Level Observation of Groups used in sociology, psychology, organizational studies, and communications. About half of the 26 papers here were delivered at an April 1999 conference in San Diego to celebrate the publication of Robert Freed Bales' summary of 50 years of research at Harvard on social interaction systems. The themes are social interaction systems theory in relation to other theoretical models, international research and organizational development, applications of social interaction systems theory, and methodology. A. Paul Hare holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago. He is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Behavioral Sciences at Ben-Gurion University, Beer Sheva.
