In a slightly revised version of her June 2012 PhD dissertation in Byzantine studies at the University of Cologne, Angar explores Byzantine containers for the bones and skulls of saints, and the perception of them by the Roman Catholic West after the Fourth Crusade, when many of them were looted by the crusaders. Among her topics are the Aachen reliquary of St. Anastasios the Persian, the policy of confiscation under Basil II, the veneration of head relics in Constantinople, and othering Orthodox piety: the impact of post-1204 sources on medieval and modern perceptions of Byzantine modes of relic veneration.
