商品簡介
Rawlings, a physician and author living in Georgia, chronicles the history of the Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s. He describes how William Joseph Simmons, a failed Methodist minister, formed a fraternal order he called the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan in 1915 as a money-making scheme, which shared little with the Ku Klux Klan of the Reconstruction Era. The organization proposed “One Hundred Percent Americanism,” support of Protestant Christian values, and white supremacy, and it was responsible for the election of politicians supporting it. It unsuccessfully attempted to influence the presidential election of 1924, resulting in failure of the organization by 1930, also due to the increased public awareness of its corruption and violence.
