Recursion is an important problem-solving skill that is considered to be one of the most difficult topics to master by CS1/2 students. The main goal of the book is to help students assimilate its fundamental concepts by analyzing a large number of problems of different nature. The material is presented at a slower pace than traditional textbooks, which usually devote only one chapter to the topic. In this regard, the book not only covers classical problems found in the literature in greater depth, but it introduces richer related problems as well. This will allow students to gain more insight by comparing the solutions, and by tackling more problems.
Manuel Rubio-Sanchez received MS and PhD degrees in computer science from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid in 1997 and 2004, respectively. In 1999 he was awarded a research assistant scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Education that took place at the Oral Communication Laboratory Robert Wayne Newcomb until 2003. In 2004-2005 he was a lecturer at St. Louis University, Madrid Campus. Since 2004 he has had a faculty position at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid, Spain), where he is currently an associate professor in the Superior Technical School of Computer Science. Since 2006 he has performed several research visits at University of California, San Diego. His research interests include exploratory data analysis and visualization.
